The EyeSight Foundation of Alabama is a

nonprofit foundation whose mission is being

a catalyst for improving eyesight through

education, research and access to care.

The foundation was known as the Alabama

Eye Institute, Inc. after the sale of the Eye

Foundation Hospital (now Callahan Eye

Foundation Hospital) in Birmingham, Alabama,

to the University of Alabama Health Services

Foundation and the University of Alabama at

Birmingham. The foundation’s new name—

EyeSight Foundation of Alabama—was

adopted in January 2001.

AREAS OF SUPPORT


ESF awards grants in the following areas:

Public education regarding preventive and routine eye care and vision screening
Eye care for the medically indigent
Low vision and rehabilitation service
Improved geographical access to general and specialty eyecare services
Education and training of eye care professionals and scientific investigators
Research in the prevention and treatment of eye diseases, disabilities or impairment prevalent in Alabama and the development of effective methods of treatment, surgery or rehabilitation
Basic science research on the visual system
